Military Appreciation Day and the New Veterans' Lounge

This past weekend was an exciting first experience during the blowout game against Florida A&M.  Mike Carrell, head of the veterans department on campus, led a group of about 20 tOSU student veterans out onto the north endzone during a break in the opening drive of the first quarter.  After announcing the names of each veteran who served in the recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, a roar of applause and cheering echoed through the stadium from the 103,595 fans in attendance.  It was a completely exhilarating experience.

In other not-as-exciting-but-still-awesome news, the new veterans' lounge on campus will host its open house this upcoming Monday, September 30th at 4:00pm.  Located in Smith Labs room 1132, the lounge will allow student veterans to take time out from the long school days to relax, get some studying done, or break for lunch.  It will also play host to future Vets 4 Vets meetings.  The lounge itself is well furnished with plenty of desk space, a large whiteboard, and seating around the 3 TVs that can be hooked up wirelessly or via cables.  Swipe access to the room is granted via student BuckIDs, which will be programmed automatically for students registered with the university as a veteran.
